MY WALLS ARE PAINTED!

Yes, after 11 sample shades of yellow (from light lemon to dark mustard), a rash conclusion resulting in some trim and half a wall before a change of heart, and several painfully vacillating weeks living like this...

...I finally made a decision. Here's a play-by-play of the final moments.
As Jim was heading out the door to buy the paint, I handed him two paint swatch cards.
Jim, perplexed and a tad bothered: Why are you giving me two? Which one do you want?
Me, feeling pretty proud that I had actually narrowed it down to two: Call me when you get there.
I walked up and down the stairs and looked at the patches from every possible angle. I started to sweat and feel a bit nauseous. I frantically phoned my sister.
K: Hello?
Me: Jim is on his way to buy the paint. Which one should I choose?
K: I'd go with the first one.
Me: Which one is the first one?
K: I was hoping you'd know.
Lots of nervous giggles.
Me: It's between Morning Sun, the softer, butter yellow, and Slice, the more vibrant, golden yellow. I can't decide.
K: I really like the patchwork look of several different shades all together on each wall.
Click, click.
Me: Oh my gosh. That's him on the other line.
K: Go with the Morning Sun. You won't regret it. You might regret too much zing.
Me: Okay, bye.
Click.
Me: Hello?
Jim: Well?
Me: I'm not sure.
Jim: Diane, I'm next in line.
Me: I just don't know.
Jim: Diane, they're exactly the same color.
Me: They're completely different on the wall.
Jim: I'm at the counter. Go with the Slice. (randomly chosen, I'm sure)
Me: That's what I was leaning tow...
Click. (before I could say another word)
I immediately called my sister again.
K: Well?
Me: I went with the Slice.
K: You can never have too much zing in your life. And I'm so glad you didn't go with the one I suggested. Now, what you need to do is go shopping while Jim is painting. Do not look at it until it is completely done.
Me, already second-guessing my choice: I feel sick.
Well, I did stick around to watch Jim paint. And I did wonder about my decision. And I did make a few weak jokes about changing my mind.
To which Jim clearly warned me: If you decide to find a new yellow, you'll have to find a new husband...or at least a new painter.
That zipped my lips up fast. I let it go and let him paint.

My walls are now the color of Slice. They're bright and bold and cheerful and full of zing. Everything that I am not.
And I love them.

And I love them.

Our entry, living room, stairway, and upstairs hall are a juicy Slice of golden yellow, our family room is a warm Chestnut, and our dining room is a light Sheepskin above the chair rail and a rich Cranberry Bog below. It's beginning to feel like my home.
God bless my saintly painter. I'm doing my best to send him to Heaven.

(I think I'll wait a while to talk to him about the bedrooms and bathrooms. And the fact that the carpeting is now looking kind of shabby..)

Great story - Love the color!
Alicia
It looks lovely!
I love that color, and I don't even normally like yellow! It looks great!
This post was much, much better than a meme. Love the color; love the little lad standing in the midst of it.
You picked the right color! It looks beautiful!
Looks beautiful!
I love it, Diane! Not too bright at all - it looks like it has a hint of brown in it. It's vibrant but muted, I'd say.
I once tried to paint my living room yellow. I chose a lovely soft, buttery yellow from the paint store - it was beautiful....until I painted my entire living room and decided it looked more like canary yellow. It gave me a headache, so I painted the room white again. At that time we had 16 foot ceilings!
You chose very, very well!
I love it, too. We have a gold bedroom and when the sun shines in, it glows. It is particularly soothing in the cold, cold winters.
I love the color! It looks beautiful, and I beg to differ about whether or not you are bright, bold, cheerful and full of zing.
And, I'd love to hit that ice cream counter with you. I have a friend who will not begin a lunch conversation with me until I have decided what I'm going to order ... he knows I need about 10 or 15 minutes to make such an agonizing choice.
Oh!!! My husband and I have lived this thru two houses. We just moved into our newest home five months ago and the home had just been painted except the Master bedroom is painted a mint green with a brown and gold native american stencil painted around the top. I will say this very nicely ~ it is not our style at all! When we first moved in, my husband said, "I'm not going to paint anymore so we are going to have to live with this". I said, "okay." But thankfully, after being here a few months, my sweet husband has decided on his own that we really need to repaint!
Poor Guy, he has had to deal with me changing my mind on colors, and spending lots of $$$$ on paint...
I can totally relate!!!!
I'm a new reader but I will be back to visit!
Diane, that was SO FUNNY! I love that you took a picture of the different shades on your walls. LOL! Choosing paint colors is agonizing! I feel your pain.
I turned out GREAT! I LOVE it!
simply lovely!
WOW! The before and after pictures are quite amazing. I imagine everyone in the house must feel happier!
Can't wait to see it in person...
You have inspired me. I might have to get a move on painting my living room and dining room. 5 years of looking at the same color is starting to feel long.
Peace!
Sara B.
LOL!! I like how it turned out. I'm still not brave enough to look at colors. One day. Maybe I'll start with the kids' bedrooms.
Gorgeous and you are hilarious!!
Diane, I love this post and the final color - rich and beautiful! I too, waffle with house-changing decisions...you should hear my husband tell the story of the time I changed my mind 10 times in a 30 minute period about where to hang a towel rack...he doesn't think...he KNOWS I'm looney!!! :)
Just thinking about choosing a paint color makes me start to feel sick! My kitchen alone has been four shades of green. It is now boring cream. My husband couldn't take me changing my mind anymore! Thank goodness that they do sell those little paint samples now. One day I may get brave again. I love your yellow. It looks perfect!
