I found Mariana's and Jacinta's lists today and want to give them equal time here.
What We Should Do, by Mariana, age 10
We should always take our dishes over after lunch and brush our teeth and if we haven't done our school work we do it instead of playing around and not doing what we are supposed to do.
(Mariana obviously took this assignment quite literally as it was just after lunch and she and her sibs hadn't taken their dishes over, brushed their teeth, or finished their schoolwork before raising the ruckus that resulted in the writing. Short, sweet, and to the point...all in one sentence. :)
What We Shouldn't Do, by Jacinta, age 8
1. Never waste a piece of paper!
2. Never throw a rock at a house!
3. Never be rude to your mommy and daddy!
4. Never slap your sisters and your brother!
5. Never pinch your brother and your sisters!
(Jacinta is a total tomboy with tactile tendencies. She is very shy but obviously feels things deeply, as shown by all of those exclamation points. :)
I love how each list reflects the writer's personality...and also reveals what he or she usually gets corrected for....or at least which corrections are most memorable. To my knowledge, no one has actually ever jumped out of a window.
Have I mentioned lately that I love my life?
