Tapers are so overrated.
Check out that itty-bitty-wanna-be-of-a-candle to the right (but please, don't notice the wrinkles in my tablecloth or the barenakedness of my wreath). Do you honestly believe that candle will last for another nine days? I think not.And I knew this would happen. I've been buying pillars for years. But that cute little boy from the youth group just looked so pitiful selling tapers outside of Mass a few Sundays ago...and I caved.
I will not be duped again. Unless, of course, next year he is actually smiling as he sells them.
Postscript: Last night (Mon) I broke all the rules and lit the fourth candle instead of the first one. Elena was horrified.

He WAS cute! But I think he looks better from the back..his family always sits in the front row.
Hmmm, I wonder who left that anonymous comment...could it be my lovesick teenybopper?
No, I think that was Margaret being funny.
Nice try, Elena. You may be an excellent actress, but you are a terrible liar...which is not exactly a bad thing.
It's funny how those things go together. It can be pretty annoying though. ;-?
I'm wondering if I even dare jump into this conversation...
Anyway, I now agree about those tapers being overrated. My chunky purple Walmart specials are still quite nice and tall!
Oh, and I no longer remember if the dude at the Walmart check-out was cute or not. Actually, I think it was a crabby older woman.
Ha! It WAS a crabby older woman, because we went through the self check-out!
My tapers are even narrower. I thought that wreath was so pretty oh those many years ago. Now, I buy three sets of advent candles every year and every year I promise myself that next year, I'll switch to pillars. But nobody wants to part with the tradition of this wreath...Elena, if you're still listening, make sure you start off with pillars when you make your first advent wreath:-)
