Do I Have Frugal, Home Educating Mother of Many Written All Over Me?

Do you think it's a bad sign if you go to a so-called liquidation sale at a well-known furniture store, where dozens of sales people, hungry to make a sale, are preying on browsers, and no one even makes eye contact with you? Do I need to revamp my wardrobe or wash my hair or something? I didn't even have any kids with me.

Anyway, it's just as well. Saved me the effort of saying no thank you. Liquidation sale. Yeah, right. I saw a simple sofa throw pillow, measuring 16 inches on each side, marked down to $117. I know, I know, how could I walk away from such a steal? Wrong color, I guess.

I do believe in buying a few well-made pieces rather than filling my home with lots of cheap stuff. But, come on. Some prices go beyond good stewardship, and I can't in good conscience walk down that path. Even if I could afford it.

So, tell me, where does a frugal, home educating mother of many go to find quality furniture at reasonable prices?

And yes, I am procrastinating from facing that basement. I've got two perfectly good days to squander away before things become serious.

This is not an original idea but I was at Kim's Starry Sky Ranch and saw her post about This End Up furniture. I have been looking for a reasonable longish wooden kitchen table with a laminate top that isn't thousands of dollars...they had one for around $400! Check it out, Diane! Many blessings; your post made me laugh--I've had the same experience at a upscale kitchen remodeling store...:S

Funny you should write this, Jennifer. I saw Kim's post too and had to smile. We have a Woods End sofa and loveseat that we bought from This End Up 12 yrs ago. We just recovered the cushions last year, and they look almost as good as new, though the wood needs some polishing. They are definitely sturdy and have lasted well. But I'm looking for something a little less casual these days.

It's not just me!

I was starting to take the looks of sales clerks personally....
