And bittersweet is the mommy whose baby is FIVE. :(
Happy Birthday, My Tenderhearted Charlie!
PS. A heartfelt Thank You! goes out to Sarah, Kristen, Jacki, Maggie, Ruth, and Peter. (Don't I have the sweetest brother-in-law ever? If he would only move his family to Ohio, that man would be perfect in every way.) I can't tell you how much I appreciated your generous and thoughtful comments regarding my existential moment of a post yesterday. I wasn't fishing for affirmation---honest!---but it sure does a soul good to receive such beautiful words. You brightened my outlook tremendously. Merci!
Obviously, I have decided/discerned/momentarily opted to stay with it for a while...without any expectations of having to be the perfect blogger, whatever that means. As Elena so simply and innocently blurted, "I don't get it. Why would you have to give up your blog just because you don't have a lot of time for posting? You know as soon as you do, you'll want to post something." Ah, to be an almost sixteen year old girl with a sanguine bent and excellent clarity.
I'll see you when I see you. In the meanwhile, I highly recommend Google Reader. ;)

Ha! I love Elena's practicality! That's great.
Consider, also, Alicia's "Blogging Without Obligation" philosophy. If this blog is for *you*, then it doesn't matter if you post once a day or once a year. You'll post when you want to, and not worry about us. We, then, get to just drink in the nectar that flows when you do choose to write. But, you don't *have* to write with us in mind.
As for balance, I think as a mother and a fallen creature, there is always something that will threaten to pull me away from my children. If it isn't writing, or blogging, it's disappearing behind books. If I didn't have a blog, it would be journaling. It would be *something.* So, it becomes a constant striving to put the children and family first in all things, and then to fit other things in as I can allow them.
(And, to discern what is "necessary writing work", which involves income my family needs, vs. "just stuff I want to do.")
But it is a *constant* balancing act, and a constant reassessment, depending on where we are in life, and in family life, you know?
Personally, I love seeing a Diane post pop up in my Reader, but I don't curse you when there isn't one there. :-) Not because I don't love you, but because I know what you're doing on the other side of the screen, and I know you'll be back when you can. :-)
And, btw, yes, those picture subjects are so cute, you could post them a year late, and we wouldn't care. :-)
I know that bittersweet ... my baby is 6. And a half. :-(
It looks like such fun!
And I'm always glad to see you pop up in my Reader -
